How could Spitzer have been so stupid?

Empire fail
Creative Commons License New York Governor Eliot Spitzer has been caught with his hand in the cookie jar…so to speak.

This isn’t merely an issue of ethics or morals. A governor is part of the executive branch of government and is charged with the responsibility of executing the laws as they stand.

Having been caught, not just once with a prostitute, but rather having spent over $$80,000 on prostitutes, calls into question how in the world this guy can think he shouldn’t resign.

If you missed his response to the media, let me sum it up.

“F you. This is a private matter. I’m not resigning.”

Why do so many politicians, from former presidents Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton to former Congressman Larry Craig and former New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey, have secret lives?

Maybe someone can explain this to me.

According to a report on CNN: “The prostitute, identified only as “Kristen,” worked for the Emperors Club. The group charged between $1,000 and $5,500 an hour and operated in New York; Los Angeles, California; Miami, Florida; London, England; and Paris, France, according to court papers.”

I guess his wife should at least be comforted that he had high standards.

The World Is Flat, says the title of a popular book, and that’s really how it is. Fewer secrets are being kept and when exposed it seems like many of these people want to lie and cover up the crime. In Spitzer’s case, they want to act like a truculent teenager. I’m not sure which is better.
