Unless all money has stopped changing hands (some would call this a money-velocity of zero), you don’t have to be a recession crybaby like the media would have you believe. When the economy is experiencing a downturn, it’s small business development and the truly success minded that shine.
After all, lots of people made money when real estate was booming. People are still doing it today, but not the ones who think that it’s all supposed to come to them.
This story on CNN is a great tale of "Two Men and a Truck."
Consider the surprising recent growth of Two Men and a Truck. The company is the creation of Brig and Jon Sorber, two brothers who started a tiny moving business in the early 1980s with, yes, a single truck. Today the company boasts 200 franchisees. Last year’s revenues were $198 million, up 2.5% over 2006. During the same period, revenues for the national moving industry contracted by 12%.
That’s just great to see, but do you think everyone of those 200 franchisees are having the exact same performance?
Not on your life.
If you want to get massive results, you need to do what most people won’t do.
Another way to think of it comes from a great book called "Good To Great" by Jim Collins. If the average person or company duplicates what they see the majority of other people or businesses doing, what kind of results should they expect?
Average.
Ok, so if right now the average result is to loose money and people are loosing their homes and are struggling to pay their bills, should they keep doing what everyone else is doing or should they be better than that?
Or, as Jim Rohn says "Don’t wish things were easier. Wish you were better."
It’s all up to you.
Get out there and do it, or find a mentor to show you how and then do it.
