Social Media and Time Management

Social media can be very addictive. The simplicity of sites like Twitter and Facebook make it very easy to “hang out” online for long periods of time. There’s enough eye-candy on YouTube to watch video content for the rest of your life (until Comcast turns off your account for exceeding their bandwidth cap).

Are you a social media addict? How do you manage your time online?

One friend sets an egg timer and uses Facebook for a predetermined amount of time (12 minutes). When he’s done, he’s done.

Where is your favorite social media hangout? Do you have a daily or weekly ritual that now involves social media?

I use a timer and spend very specific time on the social media sites.

Time is life, so I have no intention on wasting it, and I want to make the most of my time.

I love Twitter. It can be tough, but sometimes in order to get work done I have to disconnect. I close Twhirl and any other Twitter windows that may be open, and get down to business. Know where your priorities are, Twitter and Facebook will still be there when you’re done.

I’m afraid I’m guilty of hanging out! LOL Not on most sites, but on Facebook definitely. I’ve only recently started using social networking as a way to build my business and most times, I just mix it right in with the fun of talking to friends…or playing word twist! I definitely need to get more focused…and maybe some tips on how to optimize my time so that it is actually BUILDING my business, and not just wasting time.
